Scientific Advisory Board
Dr. Nino Chiocca is the Chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the Harvey W. Cushing Professor of Neurosurgery at Harvard Medical School. He has been continuously funded by the National Institutes for Health (NIH) since 1996. He has more than 300 peer-reviewed publications, including in the journals of Nature Medicine, Nature Biotechnology, and Molecular Cell. He is named inventor on several patents.
Dr. Chiocca has been Principal Investigator of five multi-institutional clinical trials of gene-viral therapies for malignant gliomas and has been a permanent member of numerous NIH study sections. From 2015-2017, he was President of the Society for Neuro-Oncology. He is currently President of the American Academy of Neurological Surgery and Ad-hoc Member of the Executive Council for the Society of Neurological Surgery. He is a Director at Large on the Board of Directors for the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. He also serves on the scientific advisory board of several foundations including The Sontag Foundation and the American Brain Tumor Association. He received The Grass Award in 2007, the Farber Award in 2008, and the Bittner Award in 2013. In 2016, he was the recipient of the Joel A. Gingras Award from the American Brain Tumor Society and Dr. Chiocca received the Charles B. Wilson Award from the AANS/CNS Section on Tumors in 2018. He received the Victor Levin Award from the Society of Neuro-Oncology in 2018. He was elected to the American Society for Clinical Investigation (2005), is an AAAS fellow (2005), and was also elected to the National Academy of Medicine (formerly Institute of Medicine) in 2014. He has also served on multiple editorial boards and is the current Tumor Section Editor for Neurosurgery.
